At Gems With Origin, we take a considered approach to gemstone sourcing, with a focus on transparency, local value creation, and responsible practices. We work through multiple sourcing channels to give jewelers around the world access to quality gemstones from Madagascar, while documenting what we know about each stone’s journey. cutting responsibly
All of our colored gemstones are cut in Madagascar, by Malagasy lapidaries working in several parts of the country. This applies to every stone we sell, regardless of how we sourced it. Around 90% of the gemstones produced in Madagascar leave the country rough. Cutting is where a large share of a gemstone's value is added, so when the rough is exported the skilled work, the wages, the training and the equipment leave with it. That is a large part of why a country can be one of the world's major sources of colored gemstones and retain very little of what they are worth. Cutting locally keeps that share of the value in the country. It also develops the industries that support mining, which is where the longer-term benefit sits.

We believe coloured gemstones are beautiful as nature created them, which is why every gemstone we sell is untreated. Gems With Origin is a wholesaler working only with professionals in the jewelry trade. Every stone is bought in Madagascar and cut in Madagascar, and carries a record of how it reached us, the channel it came through, what we can account for, and what we cannot. Our aim is to keep more of what a gemstone is worth in the country it came out of.
