Every gem starts its journey here in Madagascar, a land of color and craftsmanship.
From Madagascar to Bahrain, each gemstone traces a journey shaped by craftsmanship, care, and intention. Our sapphires are responsibly sourced and cut in Madagascar, ensuring that more of the gem’s value stays within its country of origin.
Once prepared, these treasures travel to Bahrain - our central hub for fulfillment and quality control - before being shipped to clients around the world. This cross-continental approach lets us preserve quality, simplify logistics, and honor our mission: to share Malagasy gemstones globally while creating meaningful local impact.
Gems with Origin is more than a mine-to-market gemstone wholesaler - it's a mission-driven journey to restore meaning to provenance. We exist to honor the artistry, labor, and cultural legacy behind every sapphire, ensuring that more of the value remains where the story begins: in the source country.
Our name reflects our philosophy. At Gems with Origin, we take pride in sourcing sapphires from Madagascar - a land rich in natural beauty and exceptional stones. But to us, provenance is not just a stamp of origin; it’s a narrative of skill, heritage, and integrity.
We challenge the industry’s conventional view that price or prestige should be dictated by origin alone. Instead, we advocate for a deeper, more intentional appreciation—one that values the gem for what it truly is and celebrates the hands and history that shape it.
Gems with Origin was founded by Alice and Bedour, who met while studying at the University of Cambridge and bonded over a shared vision for a more sustainable gemstone industry.
While the concept began in 2022, we are proud to officially launch in 2025. With a background in gemology from GIA and firsthand experience in the trade, Alice is based in Madagascar, overseeing the responsible sourcing of rough gemstones. Meanwhile, Bedour manages operations and logistics from Bahrain, ensuring a seamless experience for our customers.
By centralizing fulfillment in Bahrain, we’re able to bring responsibly sourced gemstones closer to our clients—offering streamlined international shipping, simplified returns, and globally competitive pricing, without compromising on care or quality.
We go beyond sourcing and cutting - we offer sapphires in their purest form: unheated, untreated, and full of character. Each stone begins its journey as rough, purchased directly from the mine and carefully chosen for its vivid color and natural saturation.
To ensure that more of the gemstone’s value remains in Madagascar, all cutting is done locally by skilled lapidaries. This approach not only supports artisanal talent but also helps sustain the communities that shape each gem’s story.
Our focus is on celebrating the true beauty of Malagasy sapphires. We handpick naturally vibrant stones across a spectrum of qualities, from eye-clean to included, each one unique in personality, brilliance, and hue.
Every gemstone we source and cut in Madagascar contributes directly to local livelihoods, with a commitment to fair wages and safe working conditions. But our mission goes further: we see long-term potential in nurturing talent and expanding opportunity.
By investing in the training of local artisans in cutting and polishing, we help develop skills that not only refine the craft but also open doors to economic advancement. This approach lays the foundation for lasting impact - one that empowers individuals and strengthens communities.
We remain deeply committed to initiatives that uplift those at the heart of the trade. For us, progress means more than responsible sourcing; it’s about building a more sustainable future where the benefits of this industry are shared and enduring.
